    The Slough Project

In 2023, the IWII published a series of case studies focusing on the characterization of slough collected from various different wound etiologies. The primary goal of this research project was to identify and classify slough at molecular and microbiological levels. The secondary goal was to determine if the composition of slough has the potential to be used as a biomarker for wound healing outcomes.

The International Wound Infection Institute extends its deepest condolences to the family of Greg Schultz. Professor Gregory Schultz was a revered figure in the field of wound care. Initially trained as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, he later delved into groundbreaking research on wound infection and biofilm.

Professor Schultz was not only a distinguished member of the International Wound Infection Institute but also a cherished colleague known for his modesty and gentle demeanour. His contributions to understanding wound infection and biofilm formation have left an indelible mark on the scientific and medical communities worldwide.

His ability to communicate complex scientific concepts with humility and clarity served as a guiding light for many. Though he has departed, his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched and the ongoing work of those fortunate enough to have been mentored by him.

Rest in Peace, Gregory. Your impact will endure for generations to come.
